09 Oct 08 - Lancers take Runners Up at National Finals

Stafford Lancers finshed Runners Up at the British Youth Band Association (BYBA) Division 3 National Finals with a score of 74.61.

After a season long series of competitions Lancers went into the BYBA National Championships Finals as number two seeds to compete against 9 other bands that had also qualified for the Finals.

Prior to arriving at the Championships stadium "The Lancers" had stopped off on route to relax, get prepped and changed into uniform. Whilst there good luck and thankyou cards were given out from all the staff to the members as well a some gifts.

The 2008 season will be partly remembered for the aweful weather that has plagued everyone all season and in typical fashion it was to play havoc with National Finals. After a torrential downpour the day before and continuing rain over night the marching surface was about as bad as it could be without it cancelling the event. To say it was a muddy would be an understatement, at points it went from marching on a bog to being as slippy as ice!

It was a credit to all marching members from all units that they performed as well as they did. The Lancers took to the field after finally bringing the show to life at the previous weekends camp with confidence. And despite the conditions performed really well from start to finish to an appreciative audience.

At the end of the day when the results where announced, Lancers were just pipped to a second succesive title by "Spirit of Coventry" our congratulations go to them.

Fortunatley the rain stopped which meant everyone could relax and enjoy the rest of the days entertainment before heading back to Stafford with our heads held high!

Corps Director Dave Milton said "I would like to put on record my thanks to all the members and staff for their hard work throughout what has been an eventful season. Also thankyou for all the compliments from directors, staff and supporters from other units that passed on their thoughts and best wishes after the show.
