20 Jul 08 - Clear Skies at Tamworth Castle Tattoo
After a couple of hours respite following the Barnsley show, Lancers were packed away and heading to Tamworth to perform on the Lawns of Tamworth Castle as part of a tattoo paying honour and celebrating the centenary of the nations Territorial Army.
After having a little difficulty finding where we were to park and unload everyone was soon tucking into some army supplied food from the chuck wagon.
Following that everyone went get back to get changed and our merry band of helpers got all the Frontline equipment set up ready for us to open the tattoo and the evening proceedings.
From a day of changeable weather and gusty winds suddenly the skies cleared and the sun came out to cast its rays on a beautiful setting on a lawn surrounded by an embankment of raised flower beds (where Sean our DM conducted from), gardens and a small river at its rear, certainly one of the most unusual settings in which Lancers have performed over the years.
Although the area was tight to say the least only going out to the 30`s and to the centre hash in depth, the Corps made the best of it with a flowing performance which was warmly received by an appreciative audience surrounding all fours sides of the arena.
After getting changed yet again and having another hour’s downtime around the castle grounds we were back on the coach and heading back to Stafford bringing to an end a long, tiring but rewarding day out........
