18 Mar 08 - Academy Debut at Winter Showcase

The recently relaunched Lancers Academy made their debut alongside Lancers main Corps in front of an appreciative audience at the Lancers 2008 Winter Showcase on Thursday 13th March 08, an annual event that previews some of the things the members have been working on over the long winter period.

In the case of the Academy, they had only been together for seven weeks and absolutely brought the house down with their fun & enthusiasm. There were several individual Guard performances followed by a wonderful Academy Guard routine and then the Academy Brass & Drums played the fist tune they have learnt “Magnificent Seven” followed by an encore.

The evening then moved on to feature the various sections of Lancers main Corps as well as individual and duets from the Guard. The grand finale was a sneak preview of the 2008 show EVITA, where the Corps performed two of the five movements that make up the programme!

Backstage saw the members of the Academy mixing and rehearsing alongside members of the main Corps, something all ages got a lot out of.

Corps Director Dave Milton said "At the end of the night almost 80 young people from the Academy and Main Corps were on the floor, which just goes to show that Lancers has a bright future ahead, they are great bunch".
