After the events of the previous year Stafford Lancers looked for new opportunities and challenges disillusioned with BYBA we looked to DCUK. We were eligible to compete apart from one thing, our Brass played in the key of Bb and you had to play in the key of G to compete in DCUK. However things were changing across the pond in DCI with a change of rule to open key instrumentation. This presented Lancers with an opportunity to put the case for a change of rule in the UK, which got passed and came in to force for the 2000 season allowing us to join!

On 4th June 2000 at the DCUK Tottenham show Stafford Lancers made history by becoming the first Open-key Drum Corps in 21 years to compete in a DCUK sanctioned event. Not only did we compete but we also won the show meaning that Lancers had won their debut contest in both BYBA (5 years earlier) and DCUK.

Lancers remained unbeaten in DCUK for the first half of the season indeed taking a clean sweep of every caption at the DCUK Leicester show something the Corps had never done before!

In BYBA however the best result all season was 3rd places on three occasions, still we did enough to qualify for BYBA (9th place in league) and DCUK Finals (seeded three).

DCUK Finals came first and the Lancers put on a great performance to finish 3rd in A Class and get a Bronze medal a tremendous first season.

In BYBA it was still great to be back at the NIA after a year break and the performance at Finals lifted us up a position to 8th on the day!

Mack & Mabel had been a show that Stafford Lancers had wanted to do since its started but had held back until they were ready to do it justice. It was a complete show and one that to many is the best yet. In terms of written book professionalism and work rate to produce, it certainly was.

At the DCUK AGM at the end of that year Corps Director Dave Milton was elected to the board of DCUK; and was also made Chairman of the West Midland Youth Band Association (BYBA region).

It was another memorable year and things were looking good for 2001 or were they
