It was certainly another step up in demand but we needed something to push our members and be competitive at this level. What we did not count on however was losing some of our best players to another unit that in our opinion was acting unethically and directly endeavouring to take the members we had spent years teaching.
Stafford Lancers looked for the first time to the British Youth Band Association for help and support in stopping this, all to no avail and was the start of a sequence of events that would eventually lead to Stafford Lancers making history in Drum Corps United Kingdom (DCUK).
This was the beginning of a difficult unsettling year for our remaining members and many a Corps would not have got through the year, but life is not easy and Lancers are not the sort of Corps to give in. Our members rose to a different challenge stepping into the shoes of those that had left and pulling the show off.
However it was not enough for us to reach Finals for a forth-consecutive year finishing 11th and just one place short of qualification.
The light was now at the end of the tunnel, the Corps had been rebuilding behind the scenes and was about to make the transformation into a Drum Corps.
